Olga’s Kitchen

Part of the Tyninghame Faces series, this face has found a permanent home at the entrance of Olga’s warm cottage kitchen. I will be posting about the Tyninghame Faces in a separate post, but I can say that this face is one of 8 faces in a series, half of which have sold.

The paint used on the face is Little Greene’s Arras, an especially rich brown that is simultaneously moody and warm. Olga’s kitchen was bathed in June sunlight when this photo was taken, but everyone is eager to see the harmonious colours stand up against the grey skies of autumn and winter.

The selection above is a record of how the light changed through one day, bringing out a surprising effect between the wall’s colour and the face’s — by sunset, the Arras was picking up a blue undertone and beginning to contrast with the wall. At their most neutral, the colours are analogous, yet the shifting sunlight began to change the facts as they appeared.
